Title I, Part A – Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantage
Title I, Part A is a section of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) 1965, later updated by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
This section allocates federal funding to public schools that serve a large number or percentage of low-income students to ensure that all students meet high state academic standards and achieve academic success.
The funding supports state and local initiatives to improve education by aligning with challenging state standards. It helps to strengthen efforts that enhance teaching and learning for all students.
Sankofa Montessori is a School Wide Title I school. Programs under Title I, Part A must use proven methods to boost student achievement, incorporating evidence-based strategies. These funds are used for activities such as providing student remediation, professional development for educators, and engaging families in the educational process.
Sankofa Montessori DOES NOT have the designation status of Priority, Focus, or Title I Alert.

Title I Parent and Family Engagement
Family involvement plays a crucial role in a student’s academic success. Research indicates that when schools and families collaborate, students are more likely to succeed both academically and in life. This kind of family engagement is vital not only at the start of a child’s education but throughout their entire academic journey. The Office of Federal Programs offers three levels of technical support to Sankofa Montessori as we receive Title I funding. This support helps parent liaisons and administrators ensure school-level compliance with Family Engagement requirements under Title I, Part A.Tier I: On-Site Support

The Migrant Education Program (MEP) is a federally funded program designed to support comprehensive educational programs for migrant children and help reduce the educational disruption and other problems that result from repeated moves. Migratory children are first identified through the Occupational Survey. Parent liaisons collect the completed surveys and forward them to the Federal Programs Director. The Director of Federal Programs reviews the surveys and sends those where parents have answered “yes”—indicating the family may qualify for migrant status. A recruiter from the MEP service provider then visits the family’s to verify their status. If a student requires services, the MEP Consortium, in collaboration with Sankofa staff, coordinates the necessary arrangements. Additionally, migrant parents are invited to participate in Title I Parent Academy workshops and regional Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meetings to offer feedback on the district’s parent and migrant programs.Filing Formal Complaints Under ESSA Programs
An organization or individual (“complainant”) may file a formal complaint alleging a violation of the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA) against a Georgia school district, 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) program, or the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) itself. Filing a Formal ComplaintTitle I, Part D – Neglected and Delinquent Children
The purpose of Title I, Part D is:- To improve educational services for children and youth in local and State institutions for neglected or delinquent children and youth so that such children and youth have the opportunity to meet the same challenging State academic content standards and challenging State student academic achievement standards that all children in the State are expected to meet;
- to provide such children and youth with the services needed to make a successful transition from institutionalization to further schooling or employment; and
- To prevent at-risk youth from dropping out of school and to provide dropouts and children and youth returning from correctional facilities or institutions for neglected or delinquent children and youth with a support system to ensure their continued education.
