What is Sankofa’s mission?
At Sankofa Montessori, we bridge standards-based instruction with the Montessori approach to provide a culturally responsive, child and family-centered education that empowers every child with the knowledge, skills, and agency to lead a life of purpose. The meaning of Sankofa is to honor the past to make way for the future. It symbolizes our philosophy of perpetual reflection and growth at the center of our work with our students, families, and communities.

Does Sankofa require school uniforms?
Yes, Sankofa requires school uniforms.
Is Sankofa a Montessori school?
Sankofa Montessori is a Public Charter School that utilizes the Montessori approach. We are therefore not a full-blown Montessori school.
Is Sankofa Montessori really free?
Yes — completely. Sankofa is a public charter school funded by the state of Georgia. There is no tuition, no enrollment fee, and no financial barrier. Great education should be available to every family. At Sankofa, it is.
My child needs structure. Is this the right school?
Absolutely. Sankofa is a structured, high-expectation environment. We hear the concern that hands-on learning means ‘anything goes,’ that’s not us. Our students have clear routines, consistent expectations, and caring adults who hold them accountable every day. Structure and warmth work together here.
How do I know my child will be academically prepared?
Sankofa’s curriculum is built around Georgia’s Standards of Excellence. Students are assessed regularly, set personal learning goals, and track their own growth. We prepare students for the academic demands ahead, not just for the current grade level.
Do I have to live in a certain area or meet income requirements?
No. Sankofa is open to all Georgia families. Our application process is straightforward and welcoming. We believe every child deserves a school where they are cared for, challenged, and championed, and that belief comes without conditions.
What grades does Sankofa serve?
We serve students from Kindergarten through 5th grade.
How do I apply?
